McKenzie’s introspective cop and bullish partner Cudlitz form the heart of the Peacock’s winning drama. It may be tough for either to gain traction within a deep ensemble, but these two pounding the beat are ones to watch.

Variety has an Emmy feature everyday. The magazine hasn’t gotten around to discussing Best Drama yet.

Ben and his “Southland” costars Regina King and Michael Cudlitz and the show itself were also included by New York Times critic Alessandra Stanley in her dream Emmy ballot.
